Freeing nautical navigation from energy constraints
Our history
Pioneering The future of Sailing
In 1997, Philippe Pallu de la Barrière won the European Solar Boat Challenge, revealing the immense potential of offshore renewable energy. The following year, he founded Alternatives Énergies and launched the first 100% solar-powered ferry in the port of La Rochelle. Since then, Alternatives Énergies has built a solid reputation for innovation and resilience, overcoming technical challenges to provide cutting-edge energy solutions to the global maritime industry.
Our experience
A new Chapter, Built on Proven Expertise
Backed by decades of expertise and technical masteryfrom Alternatives Energies, JOOOL was created topush the boundaries of onboard energy management.
Designed for sailboats and catamarans, JOOOL offersa fully industrialized, rigorously tested energy-propulsion system that provides uninterrupted power, extended autonomy, and superior onboard comfort.
More than just an innovation, JOOOL represents anew standard in modern yachting, delivering proven, high-performance technology to sailors worldwide.
Our experience
Decades of expertise in electrification of the maritime sector
For over two decades, we have been driving the maritime industry’s energy transition with innovative, reliable, and high-performance solutions. Our expertise comes to life through iconic projects—each a milestone in the evolution of clean propulsion.
ALBA – HYDROGEN SCHOOL SHIP - BASTIA
In October 2024, we proudly launched ALBA, the first hydrogen-powered school vessel in France. Developed in partnership with EODev and commissioned by the Office des Transports de la Corse and the University of Corsica, embodies our vision of clean, forward-looking maritime education, offering students a hands-on experience with sustainable technologies.
ECOBATEAU BUS - TOULON
The two EcoBatoBus operating in Toulon are equipped with a serial hybrid propulsion and energy system. These vessels cross the Toulon harbor (5 km) 30 times a day. They operate in full electric mode at 7 knotswhen approaching ports (half of the journey time), and under generator power at 12 knots during open-water crossings.
HYNOVA - DAYBOAT - CASSIS
Another notable project is the HYNOVA 40, the world’s first dayboat equipped with a certified electro-hydrogen propulsion system for recreational use. We provided the full energy system architecture for thisinnovative vessel, blending environmental responsibility with luxury and performance. The HYNOVA 40showcases the potential of our scalable, clean-energy solutions in the private yachting sector.
DAY1 – HYBRID PASSENGER CATAMARAN – MARSEILLE
Launched in March 2025, DAYONE is a new 80-foot passenger catamaran built for operations in the Marseille region and its protected coastal areas. We designed and integrated its hybrid propulsion system, combining electric motors, LITHIUM batteries, solar charging, and sail assistance. Fully electric when leaving the port, DAYONE ensures quiet, emission-free navigation in the Calanques. This project reflects our ability to deliver efficient, low-impact energy solutions tailored to sensitive maritime environments.
new era of sailing
Pioneering hybrid energy-propulsion systems produced in series
Launch of the AURA 51 Smart Electric
The launch of the Aura 51 Smart Electric in 2022 was a historic milestone for JOOOL.
It marked the first integration of a fully industrialized hybrid energy-propulsion system in a series-produced sailing catamaran, setting a new standard in modern yachting.
Four years later, our expertise has continued to evolve, and a significant number of units are now sailing across the world, celebrating the reliability, efficiency, and success of our hybrid technology.
