FOR SHIPYARDS & CERTIFYING AUTHORITIES
Hybrid yacht certification & compliance
JOOOL systems are designed to simplify the certification process for hybrid yacht integration. Every component is factory-validated, every safety system is standard, and our engineering team actively supports each yard through CE certification for every new model integration.
CERTIFICATION
Built-in safety: standard on every JOOOL system
Hybrid-electric systems introduce high-voltage DC on a vessel, a domain that requires specific safety architecture. JOOOL addresses this through a layered safety approach embedded in the OneBox platform as standard.
HVIL - High Voltage Interlock Loop
The HVIL is a hardware safety circuit that monitors the physical integrity of every high-voltage connection in the system. If any connector is disconnected, damaged, or improperly seated, the HVIL immediately opens the high-voltage bus and prevents power flow. This protects service engineers from accidental contact with live high-voltage conductors during maintenance, and protects the system from damage caused by improper connections.
HVIL is standard on every JOOOL OneBox unit and is a fundamental requirement of CE certification for high-voltage marine electrical systems.
Automatic fire suppression
JOOOL Battery Packs include an integrated automatic fire suppression system (FIREPRO) that activates at 80°C, a temperature threshold designed to extinguish any thermal event before it can propagate. This system exceeds current industry safety standards for marine lithium battery installations and is factored into CE certification documentation.
IMD - Insulation Monitoring Device
The IMD continuously monitors the insulation resistance between the high-voltage DC bus and the vessel’s chassis (earth). Any degradation of insulation, caused by moisture ingress, mechanical damage, or component aging, triggers an immediate alert before it becomes a safety hazard. The EPMS displays insulation status in real time and records insulation events for maintenance review.
LIFEP04
LiFePO4: simplified CE certification for European shipyards
The choice of LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry is not only a safety decision, it is a certification strategy. LiFePO4 is the most CE-friendly lithium chemistry for marine applications because its intrinsic thermal stability means it does not require the same level of thermal management and fire containment documentation as NMC or NCA chemistries.
Specifically, LiFePO4 documentation does not require thermal runaway propagation modelling, does not require fire containment enclosures, and is accepted by European classification societies (Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s Register, DNV) with a well-established compliance pathway. JOOOL provides full LiFePO4 chemistry documentation as part of the certification support package for each yard.
